Permissive dialing period for NPA 345 begins

A permissive dialing period began on September 1, 1996, allowing calls to be completed using either the old 809 area code or the new 345 code. This period lasted until August 31, 1997.

NPA 345 split from 809

Area code 345 was created in September 1996 by splitting from area code 809, which covered many Caribbean islands. The split established a distinct numbering plan area for the Cayman Islands.

Mandatory dialing of area code 345 begins

On August 31, 1997, the permissive dialing period ended for area code 345 in the Cayman Islands. From this date, use of area code 345 became mandatory for calls to the Cayman Islands.
