Area code 432 was created on April 5, 2003, as a result of a geographic split of area code 915. The new code serves the Permian Basin and Trans-Pecos areas of Texas, including Midland, Odessa, and Alpine, while 915 continued to serve the El Paso metropolitan area.

Ten-digit dialing becomes mandatory in NPA 915

Area code 915 transitioned to mandatory ten-digit dialing by October 24, 2021, due to the nationwide designation of 988 as the code for the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline and the prior assignment of 988 as a central office code in the area.
