CPUC approves three-way split of 619

The California Public Utilities Commission approved a two-phase, three-way split of area code 619 on June 4, 1998. The plan called for the introduction of area code 858 in the first phase and area code 935 in the second phase.

CPUC cancels implementation of NPA 935

The California Public Utilities Commission voted on May 4, 2000, to defer and effectively cancel the implementation of area code 935, originally planned as part of the second phase of the 619 split. This decision was made due to the success of number pooling and reduced demand for new numbers, citing the effectiveness of number pooling.
