NPA 641 split from 515

Area code 641 was created in 2000 when the eastern and southern portions of area code 515 were split off. This change reduced 515 to cover only about one-fourth of its original area, including Des Moines and the region northwest of the city.

NPA 641 split from 515

Area code 641 was created in a split of area code 515 on July 9, 2000. This was the first split in Iowa since the establishment of the area code system in 1947. The new code serves the central region of Iowa including Marshalltown, Mason City, and Ottumwa.
