Georgia PSC approves new overlay area code for Atlanta

In October 2020, the Georgia Public Service Commission approved the creation of a new overlay area code for the Atlanta metropolitan area, including codes 404, 770, 678, 470, and 943, in response to projected exhaustion of existing codes by mid-2023.

NPA 943 overlay introduced for Atlanta metro area

Area code 943 was assigned and commenced service on March 15, 2022, as a new overlay area code for the Atlanta metropolitan area, overlaying 404, 470, 678, and 770 due to projected exhaustion of central office prefixes. It provided further numbering relief for the region.
